Why do complex systems persist?
That question became increasingly interesting as I worked through nearly 100 structural reductions spanning ten scientific domain groups for the Structural Atlas Phase I.
Although the underlying mechanisms differed—field coherence, redundancy, feedback, structural robustness, adaptation, connectivity, and others—many occupied analogous organizational roles.
This paper presents an observational taxonomy of persistence mechanisms emerging from that comparative corpus. These are observations intended to motivate further testing and independent evaluation, not claims of universal law.
I hope others will critique the approach, attempt independent replications, and explore where the framework succeeds—and where it should be refined.
